You Can Learn Anything Quickly
- 00:00You can learn anything in two weeks. And
- 00:02I know that sounds insane to most
- 00:03people, but I'm not talking about
- 00:05mastering a skill in its entirety.
- 00:08Obviously, that takes like 10 years. I'm
- 00:10not talking about mastering any specific
- 00:12topic. I'm talking about making
- 00:14substantial progress toward a goal in
- 00:16your life in 2 weeks. You can learn
- 00:19enough in that time frame to achieve
- 00:22incredible results. And if that doesn't
- 00:24make you extremely excited about how
- 00:27much you can accelerate the progress
- 00:29toward the big milestones that you're
- 00:31trying to achieve in life, like making
- 00:33more money or learning an instrument or
- 00:35learning a language or learning a
- 00:37software like After Effects or Photoshop
- 00:40or learning AI, then I don't think you
- 00:42understand where I'm coming from just
- 00:44yet. Now, the problem is that most
- 00:46people have become wired to think that
- 00:48success stems from sticking your nose in
- 00:51textbooks for 12 plus hours at a time to
- 00:53study for an exam where 95% of the
- 00:56knowledge you learn goes out the window.
- 00:58And then when it comes time to getting a
- 00:59job or even just getting real world
- 01:01results by applying that knowledge to
- 01:03your daily life, I would argue that less
- 01:05than 1% of it applies. You hear stories
- 01:08all the time of, oh, I went to college,
- 01:09got a degree, then either got a job in a
- 01:12completely unrelated field simply
- 01:14because I had a degree or got a job in
- 01:16the field I was trying to go into, but
- 01:18none of it applied because I had to
- 01:20learn on the job. You actually have to
- 01:22learn how to do things by doing them.
- 01:24Shocker. And the other thing there is
- 01:26that you're learning all of this stuff
- 01:27that doesn't even apply to your daily
- 01:30life. You're putting off your life and
- 01:32your progress for four to eight years,
- 01:34depending on how long you go to school.
- 01:36Because the knowledge, you're not
- 01:37applying it to your life right now.
- 01:39You're delaying your development and the
- 01:42progress you can make until you achieve
- 01:44this point of status that you're given
- 01:46by society to get a job that you're
- 01:47stuck in for the rest of your life. So,
- 01:49in other words, and to round this all
- 01:51out, you're probably completely wasting
- 01:54every second you spend learning. And
- 01:56that is not an exaggeration. Schools
- 01:58train you to learn extremely slow. And
- 02:01if learning allows you to be useful and
- 02:03get what you want out of life, imagine
- 02:05what you could do if you actually spent
- 02:07time learning how to learn. If you knew
- 02:10how to actually learn, how to learn
- 02:13fast, then you could achieve 10 goals in
- 02:16the same amount of time that it would
- 02:17take the average person to achieve one.
- 02:20And they probably wouldn't even achieve
- 02:21that one until they graduated school or
- 02:24learned enough. So that's what this
- 02:25video is for, is to learn exactly how to
- 02:28learn anything fast. And this isn't
- 02:30going to cover all of the science and
- 02:32the psychology and all of the learning
- 02:33tips. This is going to just be
- 02:35completely focused on what you need to
- 02:38do. And it's pretty freaking simple. But
- 02:40sometimes the simplest things are the
- 02:42most complex things in the world for the
- 02:45a person to wrap their head around and
- 02:46actually get themselves to do it. So
Skill Acquisition = Technique Stacking
- 02:48we're going to go over three insights
- 02:50and if you can actually internalize
- 02:52these things, you will be able to learn
- 02:54anything fast. The first insight is that
- 02:57skill acquisition equals technique
- 03:00stacking because everything you can do
- 03:03is a skill. That should blow your mind.
- 03:06That sentence alone should cause
- 03:08something to click and just make you
- 03:10realize, holy crap, I can do so much in
- 03:14my life. Everything you can do is a
- 03:17skill. That means if you want to get
- 03:18into a better relationship or you want
- 03:20to make new friends or you want to start
- 03:22a business or you want to improve your
- 03:24career or you want to improve your
- 03:26articulation, your persuasion, you want
- 03:28to be able to talk to people better, you
- 03:29want to improve your body, anything that
- 03:31you have control of, right? The stoic
- 03:34philosophy of control what you can
- 03:36control. That puts life into perspective
- 03:38for you. Because if you can't control
- 03:40something, you can control your reaction
- 03:43to it. So you can control how you
- 03:46perceive life and how you act in life
- 03:48and you can achieve the things you want
- 03:50to achieve. So if you can't control
- 03:52something, you can control your reaction
- 03:54to it. You can control your mind and
- 03:56ease most of the pain in your life or at
- 03:58least learn how to transmute that pain
- 04:01into calm. You can neutralize it. You're
- 04:03not going to experience some kind of
- 04:05euphoria all the time, but you can be
- 04:07okay with where you are even if negative
- 04:09thoughts pop into your mind. That's a
- 04:11skill in and of itself. Now, if you can
- 04:14learn something, that means that you can
- 04:16practice it to the point of it becoming
- 04:19second nature to you. So, you can kind
- 04:21of slice through life with elegance and
- 04:24grace once you stack enough of these
- 04:26skills. You think of a guitar player who
- 04:28can nail a solo without even thinking
- 04:30about it. You think of a professional
- 04:32basketball player who can shoot
- 04:34three-pointers on demand with a 99%
- 04:36success rate. You aren't at that point
- 04:39yet in whatever it is you want to do.
- 04:41It's going to take some effort and some
- 04:45persistence to get to that point. But
- 04:47once you do in multiple areas of your
- 04:50life in health, wealth, relationships,
- 04:52mindset, mental health, whatever else
- 04:54there is, imagine that you just master
- 04:57those four domains. Mind, body, spirit,
- 04:59business, and your life is pretty good,
- 05:02if not in the top 1%. Now, with that
- 05:05said, most people try to learn skills as
- 05:08a whole. They say, "I'm going to start a
- 05:10business." and they start to learn about
- 05:11business. You don't learn about
- 05:13business. You don't get a business
- 05:14degree to start a business. There is no
- 05:18skill that you can learn that's called
- 05:20business. I think Naval Ravakant said
- 05:23that you don't learn business. So, let's
- 05:25make something more practical. Okay, I
- 05:27want to acquire the skill of playing a
- 05:28guitar. That's still that's the whole
- 05:31skill. That's a massively disordered
- 05:33task that you're allowing into your mind
- 05:36and it's not ordered. Your focus is
- 05:37going everywhere. Your attention is
- 05:39already split. in so many different
- 05:40directions, overwhelming you to the
- 05:42point of thinking you can't do it. I
- 05:44mean, when you say you want to learn the
- 05:46guitar, you're talking about 5 to 10
- 05:48years of study and practice. There are
- 05:51tens of thousands of books, YouTube
- 05:54videos, articles on the internet, and
- 05:56just people who want to tell you what
- 05:58the best way to learn the guitar is. And
- 06:01so, you just get split. You get split in
- 06:03half. You have to understand that these
- 06:05things can't teach you how to play the
- 06:09guitar. They can only show you things
- 06:11that you can experiment with. Because
- 06:13when you're playing the guitar, think
- 06:15about it. When you are actually playing
- 06:16the guitar, are you like, "Oh, I'm
- 06:18hitting an E chord. Oh, I need to mute
- 06:20right now. I'm doing this." Once you're
- 06:22good at something, you just do it
- 06:24because it's a part of you, right?
- 06:26You've changed the neural pathways in
- 06:28your brain so that you are a guitar
- 06:31player. You can do that thing. It's like
- 06:33driving or like walking at that point.
- 06:35It's just second nature. So, how do we
- 06:38shortcut learning new skills? How do we
- 06:40cut through all of that noise and ensure
- 06:42that we're only learning what's
- 06:44necessary to make progress toward
- 06:46playing the guitar, making money,
- 06:49whatever it may be? It's by realizing
- 06:51that skills are composed of techniques.
- 06:54So, if I want to learn how to play the
- 06:56guitar, I don't start learning, I start
- 06:59playing. Because the entire purpose of
- 07:02playing the guitar is to play a song.
- 07:04So, you start there. That's step one.
- 07:06You start with the purpose. You don't
- 07:08start learning. You start with the
- 07:09purpose. What are you trying to achieve?
- 07:11But now you're in a dilemma, right? You
- 07:13go to play the guitar and you don't know
- 07:16how to play it, right? You have a song
- 07:17in mind. You have the purpose. You know
- 07:19what you're trying to do, but you can't
- 07:21do it. So, what do you do? That's when
- 07:23you start learning in the traditional
- 07:25sense, but now your learning is focused.
- 07:27You're not reading an entire textbook.
- 07:29You're finding that little technique
- 07:31that you need to know in order to reach
- 07:33the next step of achieving the goal.
- 07:36you're trying to achieve. So, if I'm
- 07:38trying to play the first note and I
- 07:39don't even know how to read it, then I'm
- 07:41going to look up how do I read I'm going
- 07:43to look up sheet music, right? A cheat
- 07:45sheet for sheet music so I can start to
- 07:47understand, okay, that's a that's a a
- 07:48note. And then I look further. Okay, how
- 07:51do I play that on the guitar? Okay, it's
- 07:52this certain finger placement. Good. Got
- 07:54it. Okay, sounds decent. And then from
- 07:56there, if you repeat that process of
- 07:59trial, experimenting with things, and
- 08:01error, correcting yourself or learning
- 08:03the specific knowledge you need to know
- 08:05in order to achieve the unique goal that
- 08:07you set out to achieve, you'll probably
- 08:09end up playing the song on the guitar.
- 08:12Even if it sounds kind of terrible,
- 08:14you'll probably do it. And then the more
- 08:16you practice, the more you'll be able to
- 08:17do it. And I don't even think it would
- 08:20take two weeks, but within two weeks,
- 08:22you can learn how to play that song on
- 08:24the guitar. And then you can continue
- 08:26stacking and then when you move on to
- 08:28the next song, you already have this
- 08:30group of techniques that you've learned
- 08:31before that will make it easier to learn
- 08:34the next song. So let's say you learn
- 08:35the next song in a week and then the
- 08:37next one in 3 days and then you can
- 08:39learn one song a day. By that point, you
- 08:42have most of what it takes. You have 80
- 08:44to 90% of the fundamentals of playing
- 08:47the guitar under your belt. And then
- 08:48it's just a matter of showing up every
- 08:50day, playing the same thing and slowly
- 08:52increasing the level of challenge you're
- 08:54taking on over time. And when you do
- 08:56that over the course of 1 year, 2 years,
- 08:583 years, that's one thing that we
- 09:00actually need to talk about is why are
- 09:02you learning? What's the purpose of you
- 09:04learning? What's the entire goal? If
- 09:06you're just learning things to because
- 09:08you're bored and it doesn't serve any
- 09:10any utility to your life or increase
- 09:12your value or be become a part of who
- 09:14you are, then why are you learning them,
- 09:16right? If you aren't going to do it
- 09:18every day for the rest of your life,
- 09:21then you either need to identify that
- 09:24you've been doing something that you
- 09:25don't plan to do for the rest of your
- 09:26life and start to work on eliminating or
- 09:29replacing it. Or you need to not learn
- 09:30that thing at all because then why are
- 09:32you learning it? For entertainment,
- 09:34sure, that's fine. For a short-term
- 09:36hobby, sure, that's fine. But if you
- 09:37aren't where you want to be in life,
- 09:39those things, those short-term hobbies
- 09:41aren't going to help you. Now, we just
- 09:43talked about learning how to play the
- 09:45guitar, but I want to talk about
- 09:46something more practical for creatives.
- 09:48Most of you in my audience are
- 09:50creatives. So, think about learning
- 09:52Photoshop or After Effects or Adobe
- 09:54Premiere, right? These things that if
- 09:56you learn them, they substantially
- 09:59increase your ability to create
- 10:02something better. They increase your
- 10:03ability to take your mind and put it
- 10:05into the into reality. Now, while most
- 10:07people when they want to learn this,
- 10:09they go and they watch an hour-ong
- 10:10tutorial that teaches you every single
- 10:13[ __ ] tool that lives in the Photoshop
- 10:15sidebar. Again, you're learning 95% of
- 10:1995% of the thing you're learning in that
- 10:20video. You're not going to apply. You're
- 10:22wasting your time. When most people are
- 10:24doing that, you start with what you're
- 10:26trying to do. You're trying to create an
- 10:28image. And the thing with that is you
- 10:30have no business learning Photoshop, if
- 10:33you aren't actively working toward a
- 10:35goal that requires it. Because when you
- 10:37have a goal and you need to learn the
- 10:39skills or the software or the things in
- 10:41order to achieve that goal, you learn it
- 10:43that much faster. If you're just
- 10:44learning Photoshop because you're bored,
- 10:46again, go and read a fiction book
- 10:48instead. You don't learn skills for
- 10:50entertainment. You learn them for
- 10:52utility. So, you have this image that
- 10:54you want to create. Let's say you want
- 10:56to put a tree on a different background,
- 10:58but you don't know how to do that,
- 11:00right? So now you narrow what you learn
- 11:03to how to remove the background from a
- 11:05tree. And when you watch a few videos on
- 11:08that, you realize that there are many
- 11:09ways to do that. So you try them out.
- 11:11You experiment and you realize, okay,
- 11:14this specific technique for selecting
- 11:16and masking an object is better to do
- 11:19with a tree than with just a plain
- 11:21object because a tree is much more
- 11:23complex. you have a lot more things that
- 11:24you have to remove. And if you do it
- 11:26another way, it may not come out that
- 11:28well. And so once you accomplish that,
- 11:30once you remove the background from the
- 11:31tree, then you solidify that little
- 11:33piece in your mind of, okay, I can use
- 11:35this technique. I know this technique
- 11:37exists. I can do it that much faster the
- 11:39next time. And with that, and for those
- 11:41that understand Photoshop, you
- 11:43understand that selecting and masking
- 11:44objects gets you like 50% of the way
- 11:47through Photoshop. like you know mo you
- 11:49know how to do many many things if you
- 11:51know how to select and mask an object as
- 11:54those techniques stack you've not only
- 11:56saved yourself countless hours of
- 11:58learning nonsense but you can
- 12:00effectively create most things that you
Progressive Overload Of The Mind
- 12:03set your mind to onto insight number two
- 12:06we need to understand progressive
- 12:08overload of the mind because skills are
- 12:11groups of neural pathways that form with
- 12:14repetition and practice. So if skills
- 12:16are a group of these neural pathways, we
- 12:18can think of a technique as a single
- 12:21neural pathway. They are a single piece
- 12:24of the skill puzzle. And when you
- 12:26collect enough pieces to the point of
- 12:28seeing 80% of the image that the
- 12:31puzzle's trying to create, you can infer
- 12:33most of what you need to know in order
- 12:35to see results. So if you think of a
- 12:37puzzle, right, the puzzle that isn't put
- 12:40together yet is the skill that you're
- 12:42trying to learn. And once it's once you
- 12:45can actually see the full image by
- 12:47putting the puzzle pieces together,
- 12:49that's when you've mastered the skill.
- 12:51But by learning these techniques, you're
- 12:53you're putting together little pieces on
- 12:55the puzzle until you reach 50 60 70 80%
- 12:59of seeing the image. From there, you can
- 13:01infer what it's going to look like,
- 13:04right? Even the empty spot, you can
- 13:05think, okay, I can kind of form an image
- 13:08of what's trying to happen here. The
- 13:10same thing happens with skill
- 13:11acquisition. The more you learn, the
- 13:13more effective you get very quickly. As
- 13:16an example, if you're trying to speak
- 13:17Spanish and you understand a few
- 13:19techniques to use to speak Spanish, you
- 13:22can say something like, "What can I buy
- 13:24water?" And most people will understand
- 13:27what you're trying to say, right? You
- 13:28don't have to exactly say, "Where is the
- 13:31best place to buy water bottles?"
- 13:33Because they can infer what you're
- 13:35trying to say. Are you a master at the
- 13:38skill? No. Are you continuing to
- 13:40practice? Yes. But you can still do
- 13:43something. You can still make progress
- 13:45toward the goal. You're not blocked.
- 13:47You're not just sitting around doing
- 13:48nothing because you don't have any form
- 13:50of the skill to actually do the thing
- 13:51you want to do. Now, we need to take a
- 13:53look at a more difficult example because
- 13:56something like playing the guitar or
- 13:58learning Photoshop or learning Spanish,
- 14:00those don't have any risk, right?
- 14:03They're not tied to your self-worth or
- 14:06your ego or your survival per se. So if
- 14:09we look at the example of making money,
- 14:11you say making money is a skill or un
- 14:14being unable to make money is a skill
- 14:16issue and people start to go insane
- 14:18because they're like no it's not a
- 14:19skill. It's determined by this this this
- 14:21and this and I'm oppressed and I can't I
- 14:24can't learn anything that would allow me
- 14:25to make more money. And the same thing
- 14:27happens here with like making new
- 14:28friends or getting into relationships is
- 14:30that when your self-image and your
- 14:32emotions and your survival and your
- 14:35sense of who you are, I think I already
- 14:36said that when those come into play, all
- 14:38of these distractions stop start popping
- 14:41into your mind and you can't even take
- 14:43the first step toward doing the thing.
- 14:45As we talked about previously, control
- 14:47what you can control and you can
- 14:49practice that to the point of becoming
- 14:51very good at it. But the thing about
- 14:53money is that most people for most
- 14:55people it's difficult for them to see
- 14:57money as something within their direct
- 14:59control because they carry the burden of
- 15:02conditioning. Their mind being
- 15:03programmed by their teachers, their
- 15:05parents, and other life experiences that
- 15:08influence their perception of money. And
- 15:10while you can't control that, you can
- 15:13control your reaction to those impulses
- 15:16that pop up when someone says making
- 15:18money is a skill or going up and talking
- 15:20to new people is a skill and you
- 15:22instantly react in some negative way and
- 15:25prevent yourself from doing it. But
- 15:27remember, you can control how you react
- 15:29and that alone is a skill that will
- 15:32allow you to learn many other skills
- 15:34faster. If you were to peel back all of
- 15:37these irrational thoughts that are just
- 15:39clouding your head around money and
- 15:41other things that you want to achieve in
- 15:42your life, the things that are
- 15:44preventing you from execution and
- 15:46actually starting doing the thing, you
- 15:48would realize that the ability to make
- 15:50money can be learned extremely fast. I'm
- 15:54not talking about a get-richqu scheme
- 15:56type of fast because that's like here's
- 15:58a business model, take this, don't learn
- 16:01anything, copy exactly what I was doing,
- 16:03and then continue doing that until you
- 16:05get rich quick. Those don't work. What
- 16:07I'm saying is that making money, the
- 16:10skills that compose what making money or
- 16:13business is can be learned extremely
- 16:16fast if you don't let your mind distract
- 16:18you away from that thing. It's just like
- 16:20hitting a three-pointer, right? a
- 16:22beginner that has just picked up a
- 16:24basketball and can barely dribble, it's
- 16:26it's going to be all luck for him to hit
- 16:28a three-pointer. But a pro can hit it
- 16:3099% of the time. Now, a professional at
- 16:33business or whatever it is, the people
- 16:35who are making a hundred million plus or
- 16:37have billion-dollar valuations, you
- 16:39don't even have to be there to make
- 16:40life-changing money, right? You have to
- 16:42be 20% or 30% or 40% of the way there.
- 16:46And that can be done within six months.
- 16:48Six months is all you need to change
- 16:50your life. If you can simply focus for
- 16:52that amount of time on learning the
- 16:54techniques you need and practicing them
- 16:57to make money, you get to 20 to 30 to
- 17:0040% of the skill learned and you can
- 17:02make 100,000 a year, 200, 300. It's
- 17:05probably a solid range that that's what
- 17:07most people are trying to make. And they
- 17:09assume they have to reach that 100%
- 17:11level. They have to be the professional
- 17:13NBA player when you don't even care
- 17:16about getting that far in business. So
- 17:17you're not chasing a unicorn valuation
- 17:19of a startup. I've had a few people tell
- 17:22me that I'm very good at breaking things
- 17:24down and making them seem like they
- 17:27aren't that daunting. And it's the same
- 17:29thing with money because I've realized
- 17:30that myself. So if you want to make
- 17:32money, you start with the purpose to
- 17:35make money. In order to make money, what
- 17:37do you need? Something to sell and
- 17:40someone to buy it. If you don't have an
- 17:42idea on what to sell, then you go and
- 17:45search for specific knowledge that
- 17:47teaches you about coming up with a
- 17:49profitable product idea. If you want
- 17:51something like that, I've written many
- 17:53of them before. I'll link one in the
- 17:55description below, which is like a mega
- 17:56guide to creating a product. Now, if you
- 17:59continue to keep your mind at bay during
- 18:02this process, you end up building the
- 18:04product. I've worked with many creators,
- 18:06many businesses, many brands, and when
- 18:08they're just starting out, they have
- 18:10this product idea, and then a year
- 18:12later, I ask them, "Hey, where's this
- 18:14product?" And they're like, "Oh, I
- 18:15didn't even start building it."
- 18:18You don't have the chance to make any
- 18:20money if you do not have a product or
- 18:22service to sell. It's quite obvious, but
- 18:25your mind is just getting in the way.
- 18:27You haven't mastered that skill, but now
- 18:29you have a product or you went the other
- 18:31way. You did something else first.
- 18:32That's fine. Let's say you have a
- 18:34product. Now you don't have people to
- 18:35buy it. So what do you start
- 18:37researching? How to generate traffic.
- 18:39You find out that you can start a
- 18:41personal brand. You can post social
- 18:42media content. You can do SEO. You can
- 18:44do cold outreach. You can do Facebook
- 18:46ads. You have all of these different
- 18:47techniques that you can use. All of them
- 18:50work. Some are better than others only
- 18:53in the context of your specific
- 18:55situation. For someone who doesn't have
- 18:57any money, then Facebook ads may not be
- 19:00the wisest idea to go for. If you're
- 19:02just a beginner, then it's probably
- 19:04social media. I've talked about this
- 19:06many times before. Social media,
- 19:08personal brand, something of that nature
- 19:10where you don't have to spend anything
- 19:12and your success is completely dependent
- 19:14on your skill. That's the thing I love
- 19:16about social media in general is that
- 19:18it's just a battleground for people who
- 19:21have the highest skill. If you aren't
- 19:23doing well on social media, you can
- 19:24blame the algorithm. You can blame other
- 19:26things, but I guarantee you 95% of the
- 19:29problem is that you just aren't good
- 19:31enough. And again, the reason you're
- 19:34thinking about the algorithm and all of
- 19:35these other things and considering
- 19:36quitting is because you haven't mastered
- 19:38your mind. And that alone, all of these
- 19:40emotions that are circulating, all of
- 19:42these negative thoughts are impacting
- 19:44your ability to do good work. So your
- 19:47skill, let's actually, there's something
- 19:50here, right? I keep saying that you have
- 19:52to master your mind. It can distract you
- 19:53from all these things and you learn this
- 19:55skill. There's some concept here where
- 19:58the skills that you do have can be at a
- 20:01specific level. You can be at level 50
- 20:04in Photoshop, but if you are trying to
- 20:07perform, if you're trying to use that
- 20:10skill from a negative and narrow state
- 20:12in your head caused by stress, anxiety,
- 20:15all of these negative thoughts and
- 20:16emotions, that skill level decreases by
- 20:20a lot. You're operating at a 10, a level
- 20:2310 on Photoshop when you're actually a
- 20:25level 50 when you operate from a place
- 20:27of calm. So, it's like a double whammy,
- 20:30right? You've learned all of this stuff
- 20:31about business, but since your mind is
- 20:34just super narrow and stressed out,
- 20:36you're you still feel like a beginner.
- 20:38Now, how is this progressive overload of
- 20:40the mind? Because if you want to bench
- 20:43press 315 lbs, let's say benching 315
- 20:47lbs is the same as making a million
- 20:49dollars. You don't start by putting 315
- 20:53lbs on the bar and just crushing
- 20:55yourself and probably dying, especially
- 20:57when you've never lifted a single weight
- 20:59in your life. No, you don't do that. You
- 21:01start with the bar and then once that
- 21:03becomes easy, then you add 10 lb plates
- 21:06on. Then you add another 10 lbs, then
- 21:0945. And then over the course of 3 years,
- 21:12potentially more depending on how
- 21:14focused you are, right? Many people can
- 21:16speedun hitting 315 lbs on a bench if
- 21:19they don't get distracted and start
- 21:21doing all of these other exercises and
- 21:23switching training programs and other
- 21:24things. If you were solely focused on
- 21:26benching 315 lbs, you would hit it much
- 21:29faster than the guy who is very fit,
- 21:32goes to the gym every day, does all of
- 21:34the right things, but simply because
- 21:36you're focused on the goals and moving
- 21:37the le levers and needles to reach that
- 21:41specific goal, then you're going to
- 21:42achieve it so much faster. I've been in
- 21:44the gym for 10 years. I don't give a
- 21:46[ __ ] about benching 315 lbs. I'm strong.
- 21:49I can probably bench like 285. I could
- 21:51actually probably bench 315. I just
- 21:52haven't tested it in so long. But it
- 21:55could have taken me 3 years. I remember
- 21:57the first or second year that I started
- 21:59lifting in high school in after school
- 22:02weights. My friend Jerry and I were just
- 22:04going back and forth. We were in the gym
- 22:05every day. All we cared about was bench.
- 22:08I got to 275 lb max. Like by year two,
- 22:11it was extremely fast because that's all
- 22:13I cared about. My nutrition followed
- 22:15that. My life followed that. All I was
- 22:17watching on YouTube was how to lift
- 22:20more. The same thing applies with skill
- 22:23acquisition and achieving the goal you
The Missing Ingredient To Learning Absurdly Fast
- 22:24want to achieve in your life. Now,
- 22:26insight number three is a missing
- 22:28ingredient to learning absurdly fast.
- 22:31And that's that rapid learning requires
- 22:34pure focus. Pure focus. I don't think
- 22:37many people in today's world have
- 22:38actually experienced that pure focus.
- 22:43Just you and the task and the skill
- 22:45you're trying to learn. No thought, no
- 22:47emotion, no distraction. And a
- 22:50distraction is any person, place, or
- 22:52thing that pulls any thread of attention
- 22:55away from your goal. You literally cease
- 22:58to exist and you become one with
- 23:00reality. Input and output merge. Every
- 23:03slice of information that goes into your
- 23:05brain is instantly transformed into raw
- 23:07material that is put into reality like a
- 23:10lock and key. You enter a period of
- 23:12intensity where your mind collapses on a
- 23:14clear goal. Pattern recognition kicks
- 23:16into overdrive. Books, content, music,
- 23:18and conversations gain an entirely new
- 23:21dimension. Reality becomes the source of
- 23:23inspiration as it always has been and
- 23:25will be. But you don't have distractions
- 23:27pulling you away from that connection
- 23:29with what is. For most of the time, for
- 23:32most people, this doesn't happen, right?
- 23:35Learning is a slow grind that you hate
- 23:38doing. In that case, you may benefit
- 23:40from a prompt I've created before, which
- 23:42is a deep work coach that helps you
- 23:45structure your deep work sessions and
- 23:46get into the flow state. Again, that's
- 23:48in the description as well. But if this
- 23:50is you, if this if learning is just a
- 23:52slow grind, there is one trick that I
- 23:55like to deploy that kind of kicks myself
- 23:58into overdrive and really narrows in my
- 24:00focus. I deploy this tool when my mind
- 24:03is filled with dissonance, right? When
- 24:05I'm I'm tired of the life that I've been
- 24:07living, I have an idea, a somewhat clear
- 24:11idea of where I want to be, but I'm just
- 24:13like stuck in the middle. I have
- 24:15something that kicks me out of that and
- 24:17gets me to start learning towards who I
- 24:19want to become. And that tool is
- 24:21something I've talked about before,
- 24:22which is called tactical stress. And
- 24:24this is a form of environment
- 24:27engineering. For myself, I was able to
- 24:30learn After Effects, a very complex
- 24:32software within two weeks because I
- 24:34filled my YouTube video with a
- 24:36storyboard and animations that I didn't
- 24:39know how to create, but I wanted to,
- 24:41right? And the thing about this is that
- 24:43I have to put out YouTube videos every
- 24:46week. It's a part of who I am. It's tied
- 24:48to my survival. It's ti tied to my
- 24:50income. It's tied to my sense of
- 24:51identity at this point. So, if I don't
- 24:53put a video out, then entropy releases,
- 24:57right? things start to get more chaotic,
- 24:59right? If I go two weeks without posting
- 25:01a video, my mind is racing because I
- 25:04don't know what to do. In that case, I
- 25:06have to put a video out because that's
- 25:08the life that I've built myself into.
- 25:10Tactical stress is when you put yourself
- 25:12in a high pressure situation that
- 25:14creates a strong deadline to achieve the
- 25:16goal you've been meaning to achieve.
- 25:18This could be quitting your job to make
- 25:19your business work or moving into an
- 25:21apartment you can't afford to push for
- 25:23that new career. This could be saying hi
- 25:25to the person you're attracted to. So,
- 25:27you have to at least start some kind of
- 25:29jumbled conversation. And then you
- 25:31either make it work or you hesitate and
- 25:33get crushed. Tactical stress is so
- 25:35effective because most people tend to
- 25:37fall into the idle state. They numb
- 25:40themselves before they hit rock bottom,
- 25:42never allowing the pain of where they
- 25:43are to outweigh the pain of where they
- 25:45want to be. That's when you deploy
- 25:47tactical stress. Right? When you notice
- 25:49the pain of your current situation
- 25:51holding you back to avoid repeating the
- 25:53same six months for the rest of your
- 25:55life, what you're doing here, this
- 25:56tactical stress is testing your one rep
- 25:59max. Right? If you go to the gym and you
- 26:02test your bench press one rep max, it's
- 26:04not supposed to be easy. you you're
- 26:07making this calculated decision of yes,
- 26:10I think I can achieve this big milestone
- 26:13and I'm going to literally put myself
- 26:16under the bar and if I don't use all of
- 26:19my strength, if I don't use everything
- 26:21that I've trained for up until this
- 26:22moment, I'm going to get crushed and I'm
- 26:24going to feel bad about that. I can try
- 26:26again later, but this is like this is
- 26:28it, right? I'm hyping myself up. I'm
- 26:30getting myself ready to do this and then
- 26:32I release and I go all in on what I've
- 26:35been trying to do. So, you have to mimic
- 26:37this in your environment. You have to
- 26:39put yourself in an environment that is
- 26:41like you're holding your one rep max on
- 26:44bench press, but you know you can lift
- 26:46it. It's it's not a one to two second
- 26:48thing or 10 second thing like bench
- 26:50pressing is. This is a 3 to six month
- 26:53thing, right? you're under this pressure
- 26:55mentally, emotionally for 3 to 6 months
- 26:58while you're pushing, you're grinding
- 27:00through that one rep max. And it feels
- 27:02good to do so, right? If you've ever
- 27:03done this, you love going to test your
- 27:05one rep max. It's bad to do it too often
- 27:08because you might get injured, but you
- 27:09love doing it because that's where
- 27:11everything you've trained for comes into
- 27:13play. It's not this repetitive thing.
- 27:14It's the the one thing that you can do
- 27:17once or twice a year to kick yourself to
- 27:19see how far you've come. So that, my
- 27:22friends, is the final piece to learning.
- 27:23If you're just stuck in this slow,
- 27:25boring grind, then you need to test your
- 27:28one rep max and push yourself toward the
- 27:30goal that you've been meaning to
- 27:32achieve. Thank you for watching. Like,
